Below is a testimonial from one of our Lap-Band patients, Sandra Gulling.

A Big Change In My Life
I have always been a yo-yo dieter, lose weight only to gain it back (plus more) within a year. Being a nurse and on my feet 12 hours and more a day it was taking a toll on my life and body. I went to my doctor one day and saw on my chart where he had written that I was morbidly obese, that hurt terribly. I have rheumatoid arthritis and Type II Diabetes, which did not make life any easier. The extra weight I was carrying was making my whole body worse and affecting my sense of self worth. All I could do after work was get a bath and sit in my chair until bedtime. On my days off I didn't want to do anything but sit around. I have five grandchildren and spending quality time with them really wore me out. When I was younger I was an active person but the extra weight was taking it's toll.
I began to take an interest in K-9 Search and Rescue, so I joined a volunteer group and began working. The weight got in the way again. I had to get on my hands and knees to climb up small hills. I believe in the back of some of my team members minds they were wondering when I was going to quit. When a member offered to carry my backpack, plus his, to help me get back to base I realized talking about it was no longer working. I needed to get busy losing weight! I researched the Lap-Band procedure, went to a seminar and decided this was my best option. I have never regretted the decision.
I had my Lap-Band surgery March 13th, 2008 and a year later I have lost 74 pounds and went from a 44 inch waist to a 34! Dress size 24 to a 14! I still have 10-15 lbs to lose to meet my goal, but I feel I have my life back. I spend Sundays with my grandchildren ages 9, 8, 3 and two 14 months. I take them to church, spend time playing in the afternoons and then back to church that night. Yes, I'm tired when I take them home at night but I have enjoyed my day. As far as search and rescue goes, I am now a certified Search and Rescue technician! I now climb mountains, keep up with my team members and my dog all with a 20 lb backpack. Every day that I am off work I walk with the dogs in the woods for about two hours at a time. I have so much more energy now, I enjoy doing things and I am enjoying my life again. My friends & co-workers tell me that I look 10 years younger! Thank you Dr. Britt & Dr. Groves for what you do!!! Together we succeeded!
